Inn at the Presidio

Inn at the Presidio - Architectural Rehabilitation - ARG

History, art, sustainability and comfort meet in The Inn at the Presidio, the first hotel on the San Francisco Presidio. Housed in Pershing Hall, the handsome 1903 Army Bachelor Officers’ Quarters, are 22 elegant bed-and-breakfast style accommodations. ARG designed a complete rehabilitation of the building, both the unseen structural and systems improvements and the restored architectural features. Less than a year after opening, the runaway success of the Inn led to conversion, by ARG, of the neighboring 1889 Commanding Officer’s family quarters, now called The Funston House, into additional guest rooms.

WHAT YOU MAY NOT KNOW

Bachelor officers stationed at the Presidio lived well; Pershing Hall originally included accommodations for their servants.

The original layouts of the officers’ apartments fortuitously lent themselves to spacious accommodations and were retained as guest suites.

….

Rethinking of egress strategies allowed removal of non-historic fire escapes and restoration of the expansive front porches overlooking the Main Post, the heart of the Presidio.

….

The LEED Gold project includes a bio-retention and stormwater treatment bay in a drainage ravine east of the site – part of the Presidio Trust’s long-term effort to revitalize the Tennessee Hollow Watershed.
