Architectural Conservator/Preservation Architect – Los Angeles

Architectural Resources Group is an interdisciplinary architecture and planning firm comprising architects, designers, conservators, planners, and architectural historians. We work in a wide variety of sectors and building types including multi-family, hospitality, national and state parks, cultural and performing arts, higher education, and civic projects. We design new buildings in sensitive historic and natural settings, and work in the adaptive reuse and preservation of older ones.

 

We are looking for a talented Architectural Conservator or Preservation Architect to join our dynamic and collaborative Los Angeles office. This is a full-time position with the expectation that the hired conservator will work in the Los Angeles office a minimum of 3 days per week. The salary range for this position is $70,000 – $120,000 depending on experience.

 

Duties of this Position:

  • Perform field surveys and conditions assessments on a variety of architectural materials
  • Research materials, techniques, and historical context of materials to inform treatment decisions
  • Investigate and diagnose deterioration processes
  • Prepare condition reports, treatment reports, and maintenance plans
  • Prepare repair drawings and technical specifications
  • Perform construction administration services including review of mock-ups and site observation
  • Ability to conduct historic finishes testing/analysis is a plus
  • Foster client relationships, assist in identifying potential projects, and prepare project proposals
  • Stay current with advancements in conservation techniques and materials

 

Applicant Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Architecture or Historic Preservation preferred but equivalent education and experience will be considered
  • 4+ years of post-graduate conservation experience
  • Knowledge of conservation principles, techniques, and materials
  • Proficiency in InDesign, Bluebeam, and MS Office. Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit is a plus
  • Ability to travel to onsite projects in the surrounding region and beyond, as required
  • Excellent communication, time management, and problem-solving, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
